Past routines: used to/ would/ get used to

  • Use used to talk about past habits and states that do not happen now. In the negativeand question forms, use does not end with d
  • Use would to talk about past habits but not past states 
  • Use get used to to describe the process of becoming accustomed to a new situation
Expressing degrees of ability

  • Use can to  talk about present or "general" ability
  • Use will be able to talk about a future ability
  • Use could or was/ were able to alk about past or general ability
  • Use was/were able to, managed to, or succeeden in (+ing) to say what someone could do on a particular occasion
